INSTRUCTOR: we're going to just plot the points, just to show you what this looks like. So I've already plotted them here for us. But you can see that we're trying to find the line that's going to come closest to these points as possible. And we want to find the equation of that line. OK. So the first thing we're going to do is we're going to go over here to our TI-84 calculator. And let's go ahead and input these data points. So we're going to turn our calculator on. We are going to go over to Stat. And we're going to go to Edit, Enter. And you can see in list 1 here, we're going to put all of our x-coordinates. And list 2, we're going to put all of our y-coordinates. OK. So what we're going to do is go ahead and put 1, 3, 2, 4, 5, and 3. And if we arrow over to the next column, we're going to put our y-coordinate. So this is going to be 2, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 4. And what you want to do is go back to Stats. See right here, where it says Stat? Stat. And you want to arrow over to Calculate. And you want to scroll down to Linear Regression, number 4. See where it says ax plus b? Enter. And then list 1 and list 2 are the lists that we're using. And store regression equation-- what you can do is, you can go over here, to where it says vars, right here, where it says vars. Press that and go over to y vars. Arrow to the right. Function, Enter. And we're going to store it under Y1. So Enter and then Calculate. Enter again. OK. So now what it's done is-- you can see it's given us the line of best fit, which is y equals-- ax plus b. The a is 0.7. So that's like our slope. So y equals 0.7x plus b, which is 0.73. And then r here is our correlation coefficient. So that's how closely those points lie on the line. The closer this number gets to 1 or negative 1, you can just take the absolute value of this number. But the closer it gets to 1, the better that the points are exactly on that line of best fit. So now the next thing we're going to do is we're going to go over to Graph. And you can see, there's our line. And let's go ahead and take a look at where our points are. Let's go over here, 2nd, stat plot. And you see how that says plot off? Let's turn that on. So we're going to-- on. OK. And then 2nd, quit. And now let's go back to graph over here in the upper righthand corner, graph. OK. Now you can see our data points right there. And you can see there's our line of best fit. And you can see some of the data points are above the line. Some are below the line. Some are on the line. But essentially, this is our line of best fit. This is the line that's going to come closest to those points as--
