- Hey, everyone. My name is Dr. Renee Pleasant of Pleasant Leadership Consulting, where we inspire your leadership [? freedom. ?] Welcome back to our YouTube channel Leadership University. And this week, we're starting a new series in our playlist called "Team Management." And we're going to kick off that series with a four-part mini series entitled "Kinds of Teams." So go ahead and continue watching.
The first kind of team we're talking about today is called the functional teams. It's the one you're probably most familiar with. Functional teams tend to be permanent in their standing and they're usually made up of employees in the same department, but yet, they have different responsibilities.
The second type of team we're going to talk about is the cross-functional team. So your cross-functional teams, they come together as needed. So they will come together for a special project to accomplish a specific task. And you're going to have employees come from different departments and they will be experts needed for that task, and they're only come together as long as needed to meet the goal or meet the objective for the project.
Our next kind of team is called the self-managed team. Your self-managed team is unique in the sense that there is no manager hovering over the employees. The employees are autonomous and they're very high-functioning.
Now, the employees are coming from a different group and different departments within the organization. They all have different objectives, but what they have in common is the one common goal that brings them together what they're working on, whether it's a project or whether it is the task that brings them all together. So that's a unique group.
The last group that we're going to talk about is the virtual group, and that's become quite popular since the coronavirus. So virtual teams are any employees who are working from a physical location or geographical location and they're connected virtually. Now, they can still contribute to their work teammates in working in a functional or a cross-functional team, as well as working in the office. So they are still part of the organization, but they are a virtual team, but they can also work with the other teams as well.
All right. Now we're done with the series. This completes the four-part mini series. Or if you were watching the full presentation, this completes the full presentation.
