My name is Jarrod Barnes and this is the resume that got me the job with the Los Angeles Rams.

When I logged onto Indeed, and would read a job description, there were times

when I was terrified. It can be really, really hard to express yourself on a sheet of paper.

Everything from the design, the language, the color, the set up of a resume is simply

a reflection of you. I had a lot of people proofread my resume. I had not only

family members, colleagues, but also other professionals in the space.

Me applying for the Rams is very much a team environment.

I was a entrepreneur who had been CEO applying now for a team role.

I wanted to use language that showed, hey, I can play a role in this team.

Some advice on how to simplify your resume, potentially starting with an action verb:

increase, led, managed, oversaw, whatever it may be.

Getting to the root of what it is you're trying to articulate,

being able to be effective and concise in that. You know, if you think about it,

that recruiter or whoever is sourcing your resume, they're probably not going to

look at it longer than 8 to 10 seconds, so how can you get across the most important information

in the shortest amount of time. That, I think, is kind of one unwritten rule

or secret about the application process.
