- A lot of people think process praise is just about effort, that you shouldn't praise the child's abilities or talents. That's correct. But then the only thing they think you should praise is effort. But process praise is much bigger than that. Did the child try different strategies? Did the child focus? Was the child resilient in the face of errors? Did the child make progress? And also, it's not just praising the process. It's paying attention to it, asking about it. You don't have to always be praising your child, but appreciating the process they engaged in, asking them about it, discussing it with them. All of this tells the child what they did to bring about this lovely wonderful product and what they can do again in the future.
