- Have you ever been unsure of who to contact at the college when you have a question, or maybe you've needed help with something but didn't know what resource was available? Well, today, we go over the basics of finding and utilizing campus resources. [UPBEAT MUSIC] Hi, I'm Peter from the Northampton Community College Learning Center. Our mission here is to promote independent learning and help students reach their academic potential. Sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start when you need assistance with something. So in this video, we go over some fundamentals of how to find and utilize campus resources, as well as a rundown of some common resources that students ask about. To start off, let's go through three main tips for finding campus resources and utilizing their services. Use the search bar. If you aren't sure if a resource exists, hop on the college website and do a quick search. Often, this will lead you right to what you're looking for. Ask around. Ask your advisor, professors, and peers if they know if a certain resource exists. You can always contact the Learning Center if you have a question, and we can point you in the right direction, too. Be persistent. It can be discouraging if you don't find what you're looking for when you first ask. However, sometimes it takes a little bit of searching to get connected to the right resource. Your persistence will pay off. Now, let's dive into some NCC-specific resources. While this isn't an exhaustive list, here are a few key resources available to students. The Learning Center-- trained tutors and academic coaches are here to assist students in a variety of different ways, including walk-in sessions, individual appointments, and academic success workshops. Students can also use our computer lab for homework and printing. Academic advising-- academic advisors are here to help you navigate the sometimes challenging terrain of placement, prerequisites, program requirements, and transfer decisions. You also need to meet with an academic advisor before you can schedule classes. Counseling services-- trained professionals are available to students to help keep their personal and academic life in balance. Services are free to all NCC students, and they cover a wide range of topics around personal and mental health. Career services-- this office provides all the programs, resources, and opportunities to address the workforce related needs of the NCC community. Financial aid-- if you have questions about affording college, financial aid is here to help. They can help you navigate the processes around scholarships, grants, loans, FAFSA, and more. Disability services-- this office provides support and guidance to students with disabilities. Services and accommodations facilitate access to both college programs and facilities. And last but not least, online learning. Online classes are ideal for students who want to further their education, but can't participate in classes here on the physical campus. Online classes are also great for students who want to supplement their on-ground schedule with some additional courses. And now, it's your turn. Next time you need assistance with something, remember, you aren't alone. Utilize the campus resources around you to maximize your success in college.
