- Look, it's OK. Not everyone is steeped in Windows 11 knowledge. Not everyone is going out of their way to pore through different blogs and every page of the Tips app to learn every secret tool and shortcut inside of their new PC. And, sadly, you cannot bring me into your home through the internet so I can teach you everything I know in person. We're working on that technology. Don't you worry. But until then, it's important that you be able to find the tools you need to make the most of your Windows experience. That's why Windows 11 is all about ease of use and discoverability, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the new improvements to snap. Snap has been around since the days of Windows 7, allowing users to easily organize windows to maximize their screen space and get more done. But in older versions of Windows, this required knowledge of how exactly to move your mouse or different keyboard shortcuts to use. Now in Windows 11, you can find snap hidden under a button we all use, the maximize button on every window. Just hover your cursor here, and you'll see what we call snap layouts. This lets you choose exactly where and how you want to move that specific window. On small screens, you'll see four options, and on screens larger than 1080p you'll see six layouts. Just pick one, and now Windows 11 shows you every other window open on that desktop, letting you choose what other apps to showcase in that layout. You can still use that older method to start snapping by selecting and dragging your window to the edges or corners of your display or using keyboard shortcuts, Windows Key and Left or Right Arrows followed by Windows Key and the Up or Down Arrows to move those windows into the corners. And now you can use the keyboard shortcut, Windows Key and Z, to bring up the snap layouts themselves and use the Arrow Keys and Enter to pick your layout. That isn't the only improvement to snap in Windows 11. Once you've used snap and snap layouts to arrange your windows exactly how you want, well, sometimes you've got to change things up. Sometimes you want to see the entire desktop, or you need to pull up a new window full screen. And once you're done, well, you want to get back into your workflow easily. Thankfully, Windows 11 remembers how you organize your apps. Just hover over one of the apps in the taskbar that you snapped together earlier, and you'll see a preview of the entire group. And the good news doesn't stop there. Windows 11 remembers how you use your PC in different ways. Set up a snap group while you're connected to a second monitor, and then disconnect. Those apps will minimize, and as long as you don't close those programs, the next time you reconnect to that second display, your snap group will come right back just like-- well, like that. So there you have it. No more resizing your windows just so every time you need to get to work. Easier to use with tools that are easier to discover, that's what Windows 11 is all about.
