EVROD CASSIMY: Everybody, and we have warned you about phishing scams before. Phony emails sent for you to put your financial information in them, for scammers to just take your money and disappear. - Yes, And they take many, many forms. Our Consumer Investigator Hank Winchester says the very latest is in the name of a major video streaming service. - Netflix is incredibly popular. Millions of you have signed up for the streaming service, but, the scammers know it, and now, they are trying to rip you off. This is another type of a phishing scam. It's called brand jacking. Scammers take well-known companies and use it for their own website. It all begins with an email. MELANIE DUQUESNEL: They're saying that you've had your credit card hacked, or you've had your friend's account hacked, or you need to verify something. And the minute you see verify, that's a huge red flag. HANK WINCHESTER: The Help Me Hank team receiving reports from Netflix customers who say they received an email that says their credit card no longer works for their Netflix account. All you have to do is click on the link provided and enter your credit card number and personal information. But before you enter anything-- MELANIE DUQUESNEL: Dial it back, take a second, look and make sure that this is exactly who it is. And a quick way to do it is just to take your cursor and wave it over the email address to make sure it is from Netflix or Microsoft or Facebook. HANK WINCHESTER: Also, scammer emails often have spelling errors. MELANIE DUQUESNEL: Is the artwork fuzzy? Is the-- are they asking you to click a link? Because those are all, again, additional red flags to say don't do it. HANK WINCHESTER: Never click on a link or an attachment that could open IP malware onto your computer. If you're worried that your credit card was declined, all you have to do is go to the real Netflix website and log into your account. Then, click on your personal icon in the upper right-hand corner, and click on Account. Then update your payment information. If there is a legitimate problem with your credit card, you'll see the message right there on the page. - We have more information to protect yourself. Everything you need to know will be right there on the Help Me Hank page at clickondetroit.com. I'm Hank Winchester, back to you.
