- Cybercriminals have changed focus from targeting company systems to targeting employees within companies. Therefore, it is important to have security best practices in place, especially practices that include email. Here are 8 tips of how to be careful when you send and receive emails. Tip 1, do not send any confidential information via email. If it is necessary to do it, you should only send the information via the company's own email addresses with the confidential information in an encrypted attached file with a password. Tip 2, when you send an email, you should always double check that the receiver is who you want it to be and not the person that your email systems automatically picks out for you. Tip 3, use your common sense. If you receive an email from an unknown sender who asks you to click a link or open an attach file, you should stop immediately. Tip 4, if you receive a suspicious email with links or attached files, you should warn your colleagues and the IT department. Do not forward the email to anyone else. Tip 5, at work, you should, as far as possible, avoid opening private emails on any other devices than your private phone. Tip 6, do not send sensitive work-related information to your private email. Tip 7, in order to avoid spreading viruses, you should not forward photos, presentations, or chain letters from unknown sources to your own contacts. Tip 8, banks, credit card companies, and public authorities would never send you emails where they ask you to send highly confidential information. Be aware if you are asked to do that. Thanks for watching.
