[MUSIC PLAYING] NARRATOR: Welcome to Solve, your problem-solving adventure. Whatever Solve tasks you get to play, each one will have a non-timed, step-by-step tutorial to help you familiarize yourself with the game mechanics. So there is no need to prepare for playing Solve. The following is an example of how the introductions and tutorials for these games look and feel. DR CONROY: Welcome to Redrock Island. I am Dr. Conroy, head researcher here on the island. NARRATOR: Let’s find out about Dr. Conroy’s research. DR CONROY: Redrock Island is home to multiple ecosystems, and many different plants and animals live here. This makes it perfect for scientific analysis. We have many researchers working in the field, collecting data across a variety of species. After data has been collected, it is taken back to Redrock Labs to be used in one of the many ongoing projects. Welcome to the lab. Let me brief you on the work you’ll be doing here. As our new research assistant, it will be your job to use data collected in the field to work on various studies and cases here in the lab. For work on studies, we have developed a three-stage system. The stages are called investigation, analysis, and report. During the investigation stage, you will review the collected observations and select the most relevant data points. During the analysis stage, you will need to evaluate the data and perform calculations based on questions from the study. During the report stage, you will compose and submit written and visual reports based on your analysis. Cases are short questions that investigate different research topics. Case information is independent from the study and other cases. NARRATOR: At any point in the tutorial, if you need to move back a step or two to better understand, please feel free to do so. The tutorial will also point out important screen elements, such as the Progress Tracker, Timer, and Settings menu. DR CONROY: This is your workstation. Here, you will be able to complete your work for Redrock Labs. NARRATOR: All tutorials will provide you with training to get you familiar with the in-game mechanics. Before we look at some of these mechanics, let’s optimize your workstation. When the browser view is too small for a good experience, a notification will appear to help you adjust your view. The web browser can help you zoom in and out, increasing and decreasing the size of text and other elements on screen for improved visibility and ease of use. Help is available. Simply ask Dr. Conroy at the bottom left of the screen for instructions to help you stay focused on the task at hand. OK, let’s get back to looking at the mechanics. DR CONROY: During the investigation stage, it is important to identify key pieces of information and save them for later use. Certain words and data within the text are highlighted, and you can click and drag information into the area labeled Research Journal. NARRATOR: Here is an example of how you can interact with this information. DR CONROY: You can also rename pieces of data in your Research Journal by clicking the *pencil* icon to the right of the data’s name. You can try renaming some data now. Lastly, you can remove data from the Research Journal and send it back to its original position by dragging and dropping it anywhere over the study’s information. You have completed Investigation training. Click Continue to begin the Investigation stage. The timer will begin counting once you click Continue. NARRATOR: This exclusive glimpse into Solve is intended to give you a sense of familiarity with the game. Although your experience may vary, all Solve games provide the essential information you’ll need. DR CONROY: Assessment Complete. Thank you for all your work here on Redrock. This concludes the assessment, and all your responses have been recorded. Please click Continue to proceed to the post-game survey. NARRATOR: Any external guides may not provide the same level of insights and may even include harmful information. We sincerely hope you enjoy your Solve experience. [BIRDS TWEETING] [MUSIC PLAYING]
