- Hey, everyone, this is Nate from GetVoIP. Today, we're covering the basics of business communication channels. Let's get right to it. [AUDIO LOGO] Business communication channels are the different modes of digital communication your business uses to connect with both consumers and employees. Internal communication refers to any type of communication between team members, like a company-wide email introducing a new hire or a department-specific Slack channel. External communication refers to any type of communication between your business and anyone outside of it, like public posts on your business Instagram profile or monthly e-newsletters to clients. The most popular business communication channels are the following-- video conferencing with tools like Zoom or Google meet, live website chat via automated chat bots or live agents, social media messaging on platforms like Facebook or Instagram, instant chat messaging with tools like Slack, phone calls, email, SMS texting, virtual faxing. Today, 51% of companies communicate with consumers across eight channels. While you don't have to offer that many, you do need to give your customers more than one way to reach you. To choose the right channels, first find out where your customers currently prefer to interact with your business. Fielding constant inbound phone calls? Your clients clearly prefer voice calling. Constantly getting likes on Facebook? Prioritize social media business messaging. Next, conduct demographic research and poll customers to see where they'd like to connect with you but can't yet. Depending on the answers you get, offer several channels. Narrow them down based on analytics if needed. Finally, think about what you'll use each communication channel for. For example, today's shoppers prefer to book appointments directly on your website using the online form or chat bot, while product consultations are probably best handled via phone call or video chat.
